Toilet paper
Kitchen towels converting and wrapping machines
For producing bathroom paper rolls you need a line composed
by several paper converting machinery:
- core winder:
starting from 2 or more cardboard reels this machine makes a spiral with glue
and cuts the core at the wanted lenght
- unwind stand(s):
to unwind the tissue-paper parent reel at the same speed required by the rewinder
- flexographic printing group
- embossing unit:
basically a steel engraved cylinder + a rubber covered cylinder.
According on dimension of engraved tips we call the embossing "pyramidal
standard" , "micro" (or "double micro" if you emboss
the paper plies separately, each one by a couple of steel+rubber cylinders), "medium-micro".
If you add to the line a system with glue-lamination, according on characteristics
you will have a "DESL" (or NESTED) or a "deco-embossing" (or "print-embossing")
- In order to make kitchen towel rolls you will have to add a point/point or
DESL embossing+ glue lamination group.
- ply bonders:
a set of small engraved steel reels and a contrast cylinder where the tissue
paper pass trough. By this device plies become strongly joint
- rewinder:
this machine gets the core and rewinds the paper around it, making perforation
at the same time.
For new markets semiautomatic start-stop rewinders are still interesting:
the workers every time puts a core and takes out the rewinded log, but in general
the rewinder is fully automatic (actually, lamination groups and color printing
units can be used only on automatic rewinders). In order to obtain the preferred
rolls diameter, youngest rewinders have some sistem like Perini "DIATROL" to
manage the rewinding pressure. By other electronic devices you can manage the
perforation lenght just clicking on a control panel.
- tail sealer:
a device which cuts the final sheet of paper and glues it to the log
- log accumulator:
where to store logs (and to discharg them to the log saw) so the rest of the
line will have not to stop whenever you change the parent reel
- log-saw:
with 2-3-4 feeding lines. A disc knife wich , doing an "orbital" motion,
cuts the log at the dimension of the needed finished bathroom (or kitchen towel)
roll.

Since 10 years approximately, logsaws have electronic controls (and servo-motors
obviously) which permit to change the cutting lenght in few seconds by
panel.
Last device of a converting line is something able to trim and to take out
the first and last roll of each log, which never are perfect. For wrapping
toilet paper rolls (as well as kitchen towels and all the range of tissue
paper finished products) they normally use automatich machinery which they
unwind from a reel a sheet of plastic film (PE or PP) and they wrap the needed
quantity of rolls.
A small percentual of the market asks for toilet paper rolls wrapped into pre-made
bags: these wrapping machinery are quite different from other ones.
"Reel to packet" wrappers have a 2-3-4 lines feeding section and they
can wrap many different configurations of toilet paper rolls. Altough
last-generation of toilet paper wrapping machines can wrap all possible
configurations (and changeover is possible just pushing a button or a touch-screen
panel) we divide machines for "flat packets" (rolls are placed in standing
position) from wrapping machines for laying position (rolls get into the wrapper
and they become wrapped in the same position which they have when they come out
from the log-saw).
An evolution of this laying configuration is the "cube pack" toilet
paper rolls wrapper: it gets the first quantity of toilet paper rolls, it elevate
them, it takes the second quantity and it puts these toilet rolls bottom first
ones; at the same time it wraps all rolls together.
Very often this kind of wrapper is completed by a suitable handle-application
machinery.

Tissue paper handkerchief towel converting
machinery
Although some machinery producer makes handkerchieves
machines which mechanically fold the tissue (this is a sort of table-napkins
folder, at the end) if you want to get an adecuate capacity you will
have to get a vacuum system hanky folder.
This kind of handkerchief machinery folds tissue on more lines at the same
time. After this operation another station of machine collects every single
handkerchief in stacks, then wraps them up into pocket packets (8-9-10 hankies
in a packet) and cuts the plastic film for the re-closable opening (+self-adhesive
label)...
Another over-wrapping machine will take a group of pocket packets and will
wrap them in a same plastic bag for retail.
Sometimes they add a perfume spray station to the handcherchieves converting
machine (before folding the tissue paper).
Tisue paper towels can be made in roll (to make them you use a rewinder -automatic
or semiautomatic- and a logsaw or you use some slitting knives installed on
rewinder: this kind of machinery is called slitter-rewinder).
To produce "C"-folded paper towels you use mechanical machinery .
To produce "V" and "Z" tissue towels, which they are not
only folded but even interfolded one to each other, you use vacuum machines
, which they are able to cut, longitudinally fold and to transversal interfold
tissue and paper sheets starting from a parent roll.
In last years, manufacturers add to these machines some micro-embossing + laminating
stations, so the towel becomes more soft and bulk.
